Thrill, adventure, and adrenaline are the feelings that we crave, right? Some find it in hills, some in the ocean but here at FootPrints, we all find it in only one thing i.e. Rolling Squares a.k.a RS.

Rolling  Square

Rolling Square is the showdown of the 3-day fest of technical prowess, games, and info. The 3rd day is all a countdown to the final performance. The participants, and organizing team all gear up for it. After the closing ceremony on the 3rd day, the campus is emptied, and preparations are started in full swing. The stage, lights, sound, camera, barricades, the ground, everything is set.

It all starts to hype up for the participants and the team during the first round of propagation. Already thrilled by the artists who have performed in the previous years, all the participants and the team members are in anticipation of the artist to fire up the stage this year. Back in memory lane, footprints have been dazzled by angelic and powerful voices. The melodious tunes of Sachin-Jigar, heart melting vocals of Ash King, a voice like a breath of fresh air of Shilpa Rao, and last but not least the chirpy, cute voice of new age singer Jasleen Royal in Fp'22.

While mostly we are all attracted to the concert, during the first two days we have an entertainment quota under INFORMALS. It is a platform where different people single, duo, or in groups perform their heart out. It comprises all the possible things you can think of from Bike Stunts, Cycle Stunts, Football Skills, Beat Boxers, Rappers, Flute Artists, Jammers, and Dance Groups and the list is very long. While it gives a boost to the local talent we possess in our city, it all gives a moment of Awe to the audience.

6th March 2022, the lights? Set, Sound? Check, Audience? Ready, and here it kicks off. It all starts with a power-packed party cracker i.e Beat Cracker and the audience groove and shake a leg to his hardcore beats like setting the initial momentum for a cricket team batting. While this was just the powerplay and we had a long match to go. The next we were up for some cooldown and have a break and who better than Manan Desai from Comedy Factory for that, his hilarious jokes and rants had audiences in splits. Once again, we come to know the level of Footprints and magnitude, as well-known film celebrities from the Gujarati Cinema make their presence here for the promotions of their upcoming movies. We had Deeksha Joshi, Esha Kansara and Gaurav Pasawala. Moving on, we had a blend of original and soulful music by a famous band, SULPHUR SNOW. The ambient voice of the singers of the band gave feel-good vibes to the whole atmosphere. But as the clock was ticking, the participants, team, and everyone there was just waiting for that one person to come on stage.

While all these are the things we see in front, there is a lot of work done backstage that makes it worth it. 2 Months before the event, some team members are called secretively for work, not knowing what is going to come their way, they have been made the RS OTs, the most secretive and fun department to work for. The RS OTs and CCs are just like air in the team, they are there but you can't see them. RS OTs mainly try to find some unique local artists and invite them to showcase their ability in front of the audience from all across Gujarat.RS CCs arrange for the final fireworks for the 3rd day evening.

And the big reveal is done just before the 2nd round of propagation. It is like the climax of a suspense thriller where the team comes to know the secret agents. While it is the last big reveal of the event, it is celebrated in a special way which is a tradition of the team. The auditorium is black when the first ray from the projector reveals the image of the artist, the team bursts into celebration and the voice is almost impossible to control. 

And after all the hard work in Local, Propo, Deco, and every other department for the last 6 months, finally we see the beautiful and Melodious Jasleen Royal coming up the stage. The cheers are so loud that we can't even hear her, all the phones are out, flashlights flickering to capture that once-in-a-lifetime moment. She starts with an energetic call to the audience and as the show moves on the audience just gets wild!

If you are a participant you will be having a great night for which you have probably traveled from your city with your friends and had a last happy note to end this trip. But for the team it is their moment to just throw all the worries out, all the tiredness in the body just vanishes, all the fights, sleepless nights, traveling the state, arranging and designing the events, and managing the participants all just comes down to this moment which is deserved for each team member standing probably just a meter away from the artist. These moments are the ones that each remembers for their lifetime and we honestly are not able to get over it for a long time probably till the next RS.

All the team members or we say a big bunch of friends dancing and singing in unison, expressing their hearts out without thinking of anything else is what makes RS Really Special!
