Cybernetics || An event for Computer Science Engineering and Information and Technology departments

The trouble with programmers is that you can never tell what a programmer is doing until it’s too late!

~Seymour Cray

Very well said no!?

These tech-savy coders are always a part of every conversation in any engineering college you pick and with increasing online, work-from-home or digital culture their demand in any event to any company has increased rapidly over the years!

But what's the journey which plays an important role for any coder?

Solving more and more problems, approaching different platforms and designing awesome things, right?

And looking at this demand and talent of students we have a department at FootPrints called Cybernetics focused on completely Computer Science and IT department events.

This department provides major participation to the whole event and the major reason behind it is coding is something anyone can opt for, you are not required to be a part of the Computer Department to code, true?

Also, the best you can gain from a technical fest like FootPrints is good networking, have you wondered about coding with the people like you sit next to next and solving problems one after another?

Yes, that's the beauty when you meet different people interact with them, code together and enjoy!

But you may be wondering what exactly this department contains, so year by year with uplifting technologies, the events under this department have also changed one after another, but the basic idea of the whole department is made keeping in mind the basic areas a Computer or IT student goes through during his/her bachelor's program.

Also for the different groups and interests of people the events have been designed differently like we started an event called Runtime for the programmers who are learning Data structures and Algorithms while they have to code in C/C++ Language, now chances are the programmer is comfortable in Java as a coding language so he/she can participate in Bytecode event and if coding language is phyton then they can opt for Pycon event but in the year 2022 we brought a whole compilation of this to a single event cause now we have text editors for multilingual codes then why to distinguish between a coder!

So, in the year 2022, there was a single event called Runtime for the tech geeks learning Data Structures and Algorithms.

Here we divide an event into 3 rounds, in round 1 we have a kind of basic coding problems to solve, and till round 3 the level is pretty good. The best part is that the finalists which are in round 3 have to code sitting under the dome of our faculty, such an aesthetic experience in itself!

Cybernetics

Now every computer science or IT engineer once in his/her life experiences the joy of android development so as an extension to it we designed an event called Appster where the participants have to design a Mobile application based on the iOS or Android platform!

Now for the selection of participants in this event, the participants are required to register with the basic idea of their app presented in the word format, where sometimes participants along with the brief idea and unique features of their app attach some GUI screenshots of the development stage.

From the entries received we select some, and after that, they are asked to do some minor changes in their application so that we can judge the authenticity of their app, and finally, the best out of them is declared a winner.

Websites are now an integral part of any small to large business/company, not just people from Computer Science background but people from different genres learn website development and build amazing websites!

Now with the increasing interest in website development/designing, we in the year 2022 thought of bringing an event to the table where a participant is provided with a simple problem statement of designing a portion of a website means not the whole website but something which looks amazing and simple but is thoughtful to code at the same time, an example to it will be having a chatbot in a website sounds just a small part of a website but takes thoughtful time to code!

RunTime

Also, as you might have already heard about the hackathons, so we also for the first time introduced an event called HackPrints a 5-day online hackathon!

In this event, we had a pitching round on Day 1 where participants presented their ideas in front of Mentors after that they started working on them, on Day-3 they were supposed to show their progress while the final judgment was made on Day 5 based on how they have made the final project.

This was truly an awesome experience being an organizing team member like you can listen to such good ideas presented by the participants!

There's another event which has its legacy, called Protocol. It's a paper presentation event where participants who might be interested in research and analysis or have read a topic thoroughly or have studied any technology, any area of Computer Science or IT which they have closely or they want to dive deep into any new topic can participate and present their presentation.

They have to make a presentation which is being judged by respected faculties of CSE department of Faculty of Technology and Engineering, MSU Baroda.

Participants prepare really good topics, even the faculties appreciate the kind of research students make!

All these events of the Cybernetics department are conducted in the labs of the computer science department of the Faculty of Technology and Engineering, MSU Baroda. With the final round of runtime under the aesthetic dome!

Now every year for different events of the Cybernetics department we try to approach different IT sector companies for sponsorship, the ones which have been associated with us include Codechef, Cloudestor, Devfolio, etc.

We have participants from all the engineering colleges of Gujarat. Also, there are some colleges which give the students calculated points on submitting the certificate of the event, the certificate of participation kind of proves the assurance of a student's technical development other than their own college!

A techfest in a life of an engineer holds a whole different space, when our organizing team visits various colleges they are sometimes amazed at how people are waiting for being a part of FootPrints! It is like a technical festival where people come and meet new people, make new friends grow a bit technically, travel to a new city and finally enjoy the concert!

A whole special experience in itself!
