FOOTPRINTS ENHANCING THE BEAUTY OF TECHO || MSU

DECORATION OF FOOTPRINTS || Making of Deco’s

by Team FootPrints ||

Since last 22 years one of the Gujarat’s largest technical events is held in Faculty of Technology and engineering, the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Vadodara known as FootPrints. It is a three-day national level technical event, where we organize events pertaining to different engineering departments. Our event is distributed under various segments each of them having their own speciality. Every year our event is been portrayed based on a specific theme. On the day of our event our college is decorated in the form of art which is made by our team member’s. This art form is made on the basis of theme our team chooses every year. One of the main attractions of our events is our Handmade Deco’s. Be it large posters, at techo walls or the wall hangings or the cartoon standees or the main FootPrints ring; they not only depict our creativity, imagination and talent but also the 2-3 months of rigorous efforts and tons of memories that we make in the making. We decorate our college with the handmade deco’s made by our team on the day of our event. Now one might wonder Why go for handmade when you can just print them easily in just a snap? Why waste time and energy in making perfect shades and better design deco when you can just get them by some money? Is it because we don’t have enough money to spend or are we just being stingy? Doesn’t it feel strange that an engineer would prefer handwork over technology!? Are these really words of an engineer!? Well just like you I had the same questions when I had sat down first to make a poster. Well that mystery eventually got solved on the day of our event when our posters were used as a prop for photoshoots by people. When people were astonished seeing are posters as they couldn’t believe they were handmade and thought they were printed; well that shock satisfied our efforts.

“It is fairy dust and wanderlust that guide our hands to create what our hearts desire.

Main Dome

It is often assumed that the chief reason for making things-furniture, clothing, toys, a garden or a particular art-is to save money. There are other factors that maybe of equal or greater importance: making what we need for life is a way of expressing creativity and of gaining greater confidence. Emotional Security comes from providing the necessities of life in personal, meaningful ways, by our own hands or those of friends and loved ones. Another value in studying how things are made is to increase our appreciation for them as we better understand what makes them work. The knowledge that comes from shaping the thing around us helps us build relationships with the world that are more intimate. How can a person take pride in his work when skill and care are considered as luxuries! Thus, with the aim to preserve art of handwork since last 22 years are team works. From designing to drawing to painting to hanging everything is done by our team.

BurnOut

It all starts from the designing of our deco. The output of our deco’s are designed first. Then on posters and banners as similar to the length of a room they are drawn. Further colors are added to the lifeless characters. Well a deco is incomplete if you have missed the detailing. And finally decorating our old heritage college with our handmade deco’s. Seems pretty easy right! Well it would have been if I had just said there was only one.

Approximately, 3-4 deco’s size of a room, 5-6 deco’s half the size of a room, 7-8 posters several wall hangings and our lifeline FootPrints Ring is been designed every year. The rigorous hard work of 2-3 months finally pays off on the day of event when our old architectural techo brightens up with our colorful posters and banners.

Deco of 22nd Edition

But as much as hard and tiresome they seem to make the more they are filled with laughter and loads of memories. Making of deco at our dc is one of the most memorable experiences that all the organizing team member will have in their journey. Starting from measurements to endless trials of drawings; from painting of deco’s to painting each other’s face and of course clothes; from last detailing to last minute touch-ups its an unforgettable one. Doesn’t matter if you are fond of art or you are an expert, even if you aren’t, you will still find a hidden talent at the end of this journey that was not found about which you will be proud of. Because it’s all about learning and exploring yourself.

At last, but not the least is the execution of our deco’s!!! The day and night before the event is when we place our deco’s around the campus. Hanging them perfectly at our departmental buildings is a hell of a challenge. But the real fun and adventurous part is when we place our FootPrints ring and our main FootPrints deco at main dome and at the main enterance. Our ring shines and sparkle at the night of concert and so does our heart and eyes filled with memories.

So, if you ask me one of the best time, I ever had in my FootPrints journey, it’s always going to be deco because no matter how much hard you try to hate it while making, all your hardwork is going to be paid on day. Because you see that’s the thing with handmade items, they still have the person’s mark on them, and when you hold them, you feel less alone.
