"In the world of business, the people who are most successful are those who are doing what they love" - Warren Buffett

At the Faculty of Technology and Engineering, the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, an annual technical fest for the last 22 years has been held named 'FootPrints'. Where students all across the state and country showcase their cutting-edge models based on new-age technology and showcase their soft skills too, with nontechnical events.

An engineer's forte is in maths, technical modelling, number crunching and some core skills where they excel, but in an engineer's life a major void of soft skills, financial knowledge, teamwork, decision-making, communication and management needs to be filled, this is where the major nontechnical part of FootPrints focuses on, building an engineer all-around exposure and making them market fit so they progress in varied fields.

Among the nontechnical segments at FootPrints, the major ones are Quest (physically challenging drills, mind boggling treasure hunts, debates competitions and arts skilled events), Virtuosity (Mobile and PC gaming-based events) and the last segment where stock market enthusiasts and finance keen showcase their skills called FOOTPRINTS STOCK EXCHANGE (FSE).

FootPrints Stock Exchange

In FSE, the finance interested and fierce traders who are actively part of the stock market, the ones who are learning the markets and understanding how they work, can showcase their skills or test their knowledge in this segment.

FSE was started with the idea of creating financial knowledge and making college youth more financially independent.

FootPrints Stock Exchange allows participants to understand the vagaries of the stock exchange and gain experience before they take the markets head-on exposure.

FootPrints Stock Exchange mainly consists of three major events

1)     Hash Market

2)     Inversion

3)     Pitchers Project

Hash Market is an online event where FootPrints have collaborated with ‘DALAL STREET INVESTMENT JOURNAL’  where the participant has to trade and invest in the real market according to the real BSE & NSE fluctuations, all participants are given 1 month of the time period and ₹10,00,000 sum from which they can buy, sell or hold any number of stocks and companies, after a month of fierce day trading and some long term investing the participant which makes the highest profit on the initial sum of ₹10L will be declared the winner and will also be given a direct entry to INVERSION Round 2.

INVERSION is the flagship event under the FSE banner, this event contains number crunching and proactive decision making process. Hypothetical situations are created where there are fluctuations which are pre-decided according to the news and scenarios created by the team which are virtual. There are around 40+ teams participating in Inversion, each team of 3 people are market geeks and they love virtually created markets.

Inversion was started with the idea of presenting a tailor made event that suits the participants and makes them aware of new technologies or new market scenarios or something where they are in situations to take important financial decisions.

Inversion is a 2 round event where in the first round the teams are given different situations like they have to trade in commodities, file taxes and do deductions for a common man, or make mutual funds and sip’s. These types of event rounds make the participants more aware of real-life situations they might face in the coming years.

The second round of Inversion is the most interesting one where the participants get once in a lifetime experience of never imagined investments and the size of the budgets are ranging from lakhs to crores and billions.

Round 2 of inversion has previously been played in varied forms from creating of SPAC’s (Special Purpose Acquisition Companies), to creating personal mutual funds portfolios, even including hypothetical scenarios of bidding for IPL auctions and making teams of 11 players, or MLA auctions where top 6 teams which enter the second round are allotted a national level political party and they have to bid for MLA's and create strong varied portfolio of leaders from multi background.

Even every year different types of bidding and auctions are introduced so participants get a one of a kind experience. We have had close bid auctions, open auctions, 2nd highest price auction, reverse auction, average auctions and many more types.

Pitcher's Project was a new event introduced in the 22nd edition of FootPrints, where we had created our own shark tank type startup pitching, we had 40+ startup ideas registered with us, out of which top 10 abstract ideas were selected and the top 10 idea start-up pitches were made and if they had a demo of their products or a minimum viable product they were given a chance to showcase their products to our panel which were professional investors. The top ideas were given free start-up and finance courses with cash prizes and seed investment in their startups also.

Previously in the segment of FSE, there was also an event called Bid2Win which was an event based on mathematical calculations, probability, permutations and combinations which was always a mind crunching event.

FSE was started with an idea to inculcate finance knowledge into the participants as well as the team FootPrints. When the team designs the rounds, the prices of stocks, fluctuations, market scenarios the team gets all round exposure and learnings of real time cash flows in the market.

Before the on day event there are mock rounds being played of FSE, which are the most entertaining and memorizing part at FSE. FSE generally has mock rounds in the last week of the event where the ex-team is invited to play the same rounds of FSE Inversion and hot debates take place where the main aim is to clear the loopholes in the rounds designed and check the sheets being created by team so there are no on day problems.

These FSE mocks are always late night mocks where the present team and ex-team together start the rounds at 11 in night and the mocks are on till the early morning where the ex-team share their experiences of past events and the memories they had on day.

FSE is one such department which is always fun, intriguing, mind boggling and memorizing. All such departments being unique and creative with in itself, FootPrints is such an once in a lifetime experience for the team and participants.
